A Few Easy Tips to Save This Summer

By: Anthony Pilolli and Daniel Young

Summer is right around the corner and so are some easy ways to save while still enjoying the beautiful weather. Everyone wants to get out and enjoy the weather, but fear the costs of expensive summer events. Here are 5 Tips from CouponTrade on how to put some extra cash in your pocket this summer:

First, scope out some of the free events in your city. Many people assume that a fun night out means it will cost them an arm and a leg, but this is far from true. In Chicago, the Chicago Park District offers free movies at 20 different parks, once a month. Also, our Lincoln Park Zoo is free all year around! Find free deals like this in your city. Trust me, its easier than you think.

Next, look for ways to save on dining. We all love going to our favorite outdoor eateries in the summer season, but this can get expensive. Try to time your meals when the restaurant is offering specific meal and drinks deals, or when you have accessible coupons. “An ounce of Prevention is worth a pound of cure” -Benjamin Franklin. The same goes for saving some money in the hot summer season, start planning ahead: many restaurants have specials and happy hour deals on food and drink. If planning your day around a restaurant deal is just too much, save the money and have a picnic. Pack a lunch (that you bought using grocery store coupons, obviously) and head to the park or beach. This can be just as tasty without breaking the bank.

Our third savings tip: break out that bicycle! Put that gas guzzler away and get some exercise while saving a great deal of money. With gas prices rising like crazy, Americans can save hundreds and possibly even thousands this summer by biking instead of driving. If you don’t have a bike, there are some great deals on them at Dick’s Sporting Goods and Sports Authority as well as many coupons for these purchases on CouponTrade. This will prove to be a great investment for seasons to come!

Try to conserve within the house this summer. Most people use the air conditioner to cool off all summer, but it isn’t always necessary. Using a fan and opening the windows creates a great breeze and also saves 67% on energy consumption. We have a bunch of coupons for Ace Hardware, where you can save on house fans, box fans, oscillating fans and more! That’s saving energy and saving you money all summer long. Many people also leave unneeded lights on during the day, which uses up more money and energy. Open up the windows at night and the curtains during the day. You will find that these simple steps can create a rather large amount of savings.

Do you have any fun ways for us to save this Summer? Share them with us on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or Tumblr!

CouponTrade’s Saving Mom of the Week: Celeste Tobey!

By Anthony Pilolli

This week’s Savings Mom of the Week is Celeste Tobey.

Celeste Tobey and her children

Celeste and her two boys, Vincent and Dominic.

Not only is Celeste a savings mom, but one we would also call a Super-Mom!

On top of taking care of her two children, Celeste runs her own photography business, Celestina Marie Photography, and “Swap, Sell, Steal, or Deal” on Facebook where she shares various deals she finds daily and allows for people to share their own deals, as well sell and swap items…just like the name.

Celeste is an advocate for savings and here are some of her exclusive tips:

  • Always search one last time before hitting “BUY”. One last clean sweep for on site coupons can only help.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for deals if you see fit. Celeste was almost forced to pay $15 for shipping because the costume size her son needed wasn’t available at a store just blocks away from her home. Celeste called customer service and explained, and received FREE 2 day shipping!
  • Look for deals on social networking groups. Celeste shares her deals on Facebook with a network of over 400 fellow savers.

“She is always finding neat ways to save or scoping out deals. She even lets family members in on her secrets so the whole family benefits!”  -Nicole Tobey, cousin of Celeste.

Travel Saving Tips and Coupons for the Road

By Georgiana Mullinix

I’ll admit it. I’m a bit of a travel junkie, and It’s that time of year where I’m feeling the itch to just pack a suitcase and say la vie! As a seasoned traveler I’ve picked up a few tips or two on how to save.

travel_savings_tips

Save with coupons, take the whole family!

After all, being stranded somewhere with little to no cash isn’t exactly down time! But with a little guidance, you’ll be sipping your mojitos, getting a nice tan, and feeling the nice summer breeze.

1.    First things first, flights can be expensive and can limit your dream vacation that you’ve been planning in your head. Everyone knows about last minute deals and cheap airfare sites such as travelcity and CheapOAir, but what most don’t know is that you can get even further savings by using CouponTrade’s coupons which can get you as much as $50 off your airfare on their sites.

2.    Look for Hotel packages with a theme. You can get a romantic getaway that includes riding horseback on the beach, or go for a kayaking adventure. These deals often include breakfast as well as lunch. Also, when traveling, save on food while going to the local stores for snacks, instead of always eating out, that way you can use the extra money for that fancy restaurant that your guidebook recommended you.

3.    If you’re traveling abroad, invest in a Eurorail pass. It’s a great way to view the scenery as well as travel more places without having to rent a car. You can travel throughout Germany or Italy starting at $51 with a 1-country pass, and up to two countries starting at $176. If renting is more your style, check out CouponTrade’s coupons for car rental services!

4.    Last of all, travel light! I know it gets said a lot, but I’ve learned the hard way that I do not need 4 pairs of shoes, two suitcases, or even a blow dryer (most hotels accommodate that, but check first).  You’ll be surprised at what you can get along with, and it can even feel freeing. Also, be sure to invest in a good suitcase or backpack that will last throughout the trip.

CouponTrade’s Saving Mom & Dad of The Week!

By Megan Marie Sullivan

This week, we’re not just featuring a Mom of the Week, but a Dad of the Week as well!

Savings-tips-from-parents

Russ and Elaine at their son's graduation.

Russell and Elaine Keehl, from Minnesota, have been saving together for over 40 years! Here’s some of their top savings tips:

  • When you’re at the grocery store, buy the generic brand at least once, just to try it. You may not even be able to tell the difference between the two!
  • Shop at warehouse or bulk stores such as Costco or Sam’s Club for items such as Health, Beauty, and cookware. Elaine and Russ have also found great deals on televisions and food at their local bulk stores.
  • If you can, shop in the middle of the day, early in the week! If you can get to the stores when they first open, the aisles will be free and clear, and you won’t have to wait in the line. You’ll save money and time!
  • Keep clipping those coupons!

Here’s a few things we love about Russ and Elaine:

Together, Russ, Elaine and their son Bryan are a very loving and affectionate family. They’re both retired and now spend their time biking and volunteering at a local food shelter, where Russ is known for his jokes and great advice. Russ and Elaine also enjoy looking for deals on the latest electronics, such as laptops, GPS navigators, and DVD players. Now that’s savvy!

Thanks again, Russ and Elaine, for being our Saving Parents of The Week!

Check out our previous Moms of the Week here. Want to nominate your mom? Comment on our blog post or reach out to our Support Team to get in touch!

Celebrity Couponers: Volume I

by: Anthony Pilolli

In between shooting movies or television shows and  prepping for red carpet events, celebrities are clipping coupons!

While this may come as a shock to most of you, celebrities do save on their day-to-day activities. They may drive their $150,000 car to the local Whole Foods, but you better believe they’re saving inside that store.

Just who are these saving celebs?

Hilary Swank

Hilary Swank, actor, says she sees coupons as “a dollar in my pocket”.

Sarah Michelle Gellar

“I clip coupons all the time. Why should you pay more for something that someone else is paying less for?”- Sarah Michelle Gellar, actor.

But it’s not just for the ladies…

Tim Hasselbeck

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, co-host of The View and wife of retired NFL Quarterback Tim Hasselbeck says she “married a coupon guy“. Even the big, bad, and rather wealthy NFL players coupon! Maybe these use these: NFL coupons!

Roy Hibbert, center for the Indiana Pacers, says that when “Going to restaurants, I make sure if I have a coupon, I use it.”

It appears that Hollywood’s leading ladies and our professional athletes are joining in on the coupon craze!
